the mental woman

When it came time to create the logo for Mental The Podcast, Sarah wanted to draw and incorporate what she thought of as "the Mental woman."

One of Sarah's favorite TV series is Daredevil, and she wanted the Mental woman to emulate his iconic stance and some of what it represents: strength, mystique, self-reflection, inner turmoil. She also wanted her to be beautiful and, unlike Daredevil, unmasked, but still faceless. The viewer relates to the woman and wants to know her story.

The "M" in "MENTAL" is intentionally offset from the rest of the word, indicating fracture, disorder; something is offset for the word, like it is for the show's mothers.

 "Warhol"

"Warhol"

As we created the website, Andy asked Sarah to draw the Mental woman in more poses. She drew the two iterations found above, but separately.

Andy knew Sarah liked the work of Andy Warhol, so he set the two images together as above and called the image "Warhol." This particular iteration is "Warhol 9."

For Andy, the "stressed out" Mental woman feels alone, though she really isn't. For Sarah, the woman can group days together between breakdowns where she at least appears to be alright, though she's torn up inside. For others, the image might take on a different meaning.
